Joe Schmo 2 Episode 2

Joe Schmo 2

The episode started out reviewing the previous episode, as well as reminding us that Ingrid is suspicious of the show. They are also worried that she will raise suspicions in Tim.

The show writers brainstorm ideas for fixing the show, including the possibility of evicting Ingrid. They also point out that the actors have to make sure that Ingrid does not corrupt Tim.

Ingrid and Ambrosia (the bitch) get into it. The problems start out with Ambrosia making snide comments to Ingrid, and continue when Ingrid asks Ambrosia to “get a drink with her.” They go over to the side, and after prompting Ambrosia expresses annoyance at Ingrid’s questioning of the show. Ambrosia simply wants to have a good time, and play the game and Ingrid’s questioning is getting in the way of that. Ingrid then agrees to keep her opinions to herself, though she still seems unsure. The camera then cuts away to Ingrid saying that she cannot suppress the conspiracy theorist in her, but she will try to ignore it so she can have a good time. She takes on the attitude that if the show is trying to make fun of her there is nothing she can do about it, so she will simply have fun.

TJ (playa), Bryce (Stalker), and Tim (the real guy) start talking about hypnotism. TJ and Tim decide to screw with Bryce by pretending to be hypnotized. Bryce “hypnotized” them to scratch when he said dogpaddle.

During dinner they were talking about things they would not want to do for love. Bryce said dogpaddle, and they pretended to have itches. They then broke the news that they were screwing with him. Bryce then flipped out and seemed upset that they had messed with him. Tim simply seemed amused, but Ingrid seemed to feel a little bad. She pointed out that Bryce was more sensitive than most guys and that they had to be careful not to make him the but of their jokes.

It is now time for another falcon twist; the falcon flies in, prompting the crowd to scream. The host announces a new contest with a trip as a prize. He also tells the guys that one of them will be eliminated tonight. They cut to a rehearsal scene showing how hard it is to get the falcon to behave. It crashes into windows, flies into the house, and at times refuses to get off of the training glove.

After a quick discussion about breasts (and their names) the contest starts. They have to choose an envelope with a strange pose in it. Who ever can hold the pose for the longest, wins. The plan was for one of the actors to win…so they were hoping that Ingrid would quit. The final two contestants were Ambrosia and Ingrid. Seeing as Ambrosia had an easy pose, she ended up winning. Of course TJ had a chance to make a lot of sexual comments about Ingrid first.

They then went out to the onsite winery. Since Ernie plays an heir to a wine fortune he corrects the host continuously. They now have a wine tasting, where Austin (Bachelor) pays extra attention to Cammy (dumb blonde) which annoys Ingrid. Now the guys have to spend time with Piper (Bachelorette). Bryce of course acts creepy talking about love at first site. The girls then take turns massaging Austin…and Gerald (the is he gay guy) takes a turn.

Next the host announces that they are a grape smashing. Eleanor (weepy girl) starts crying about the fact that Austin is hitting on Cammy. Austin acts sympathetic, but then chooses Cammy anyway. Piper chooses Tim, which upsets Bryce tremendously. She leaves Tim temporarily and helps Bryce, but he gets a bit to “friendly” so she goes back to Tim. Ingrid seems upset that Austin picked Cammy, not because she was jealous, but because she thought he should have picked Eleanor to cheer her up.

The show now goes to the eviction ceremony (which they have promised with be exciting). It seems the host is running a bit late, which puzzles the cast. He finally walks in with a candle, which freaks out the falcon (and amuses Ingrid). They are now told to hold their candles erect. Piper will then light the candles of those she chooses. Those “with their wicks untouched” will be evicted. The guys all give a speech telling why they should be chosen. Bryce sounds VERY creepy, and reads a poem while crying. The host uses a few other strange sayings, including “dip your wick in her flame of love.” Ernie is eliminated, Piper says she is intimidated by his knowledge, but the show implies that it is his girth that intimidates her. He gives an upbeat speech and points out that at least he was not the first to be eliminated. The host then points out that he actually is the first man eliminated. Ingrid does not seem to appreciate this comment.

The show then wraps up with a few scenes from next week, continuing with Ingrid’s doubts about the veracity of the show.

-----------

They seem to be taking this show a lot farther than the first season. There were actually times where I got the feeling that the producers are playing the joke on us…not on the “real” contestants. For example, Ingrid seemed to over react to the speeches of the other contestants. Her comments last week were not out of line, but she seemed to continue her suspicious this week. It almost seems that her comments are scripted to make us think that she knows that it is fake. Of course I realize that edited could be used to up the tension, but even so I am starting to get suspicious of the show. I was also puzzled by the fact that the contestants were surprised by the falcon. The host announced that it was time for a falcon twist. Durring the last falcon twist the falcon flew in, so it would be expected that he would fly in for this falcon twist as well. Perhaps if only the actors reacted I would simply consider it to be bad acting, but the fact that Ingrid reacted as well made me more suspicious. This is something that I will have to keep looking at for the rest of the season. Could the real schmoes of this year’s Joe Schmoe show be the audience?

Other than that the show was funny, the comments of the host had me laughing throughout the episode. “Dip your wick in her flame of love” was my favorite saying of the night. Even if the entire thing is faked this year, it is well worth watching. Its ability to satire reality TV has me in stitches through most of the episode. While they may be plagued with over acting, the writing is very good. The cut scenes with the writers are funny as well. I like watching them scramble after each miscue. The writers are actually the main reason I am not even more suspicious of the show…either the show is what they are telling us…or they are much better actors than the ones they hired. I am puzzled by the fact that they have not shown us more of the writer who also acted in the last season of the show (he played “Brian, the buddy”).

Since the commercials for Joe Schmo 2 have been bothering me, I posted about them over at the Random Reviewer main site

Well, that is all for this week, I’ll be back for another description of next week’s Joe Schmoe 2 episode next Tuesday night.
